A brief history of the Chicago & North Western Iowa Division mainline, now part of the Overland Route:

10/25/22

This unique Double Intersection Warren Pony Truss crosses over the Union Pacific mainline between Ogden and the Kate Shelley High Bridge.
The bridge was built in 1900 using a recycled pony truss span. The pony truss was originally built at Bridge #217 on the Wisconsin Division, believed to be near Oregon, Wisconsin.
In addition, the original build date of the bridge is unknown. It is likely that the only pieces of the original railroad bridge include the truss frame, which was likely built in the mid 1880s. It is quite likely that this truss may be a product of Alden & Lassig Bridge Works.
A number of bridges like this were constructed over double track mainlines for township and county roads.
The main truss span is a heavily modified Double Intersection Warren Pony Truss with riveted connections.
This bridge is approached by wooden trestle, and is set onto wooden piers. These wooden piers are set on stone substructures.
Overall, the bridge remains in fair condition. Being a main road, it is likely that this bridge will be replaced at some point.

The author has ranked this bridge as being moderately significant, due to the unique history and design.
